Securities company fund manager Seo Seok-woo (played by Gong Yoo) appears polished and capable, but he is also a man who prioritizes profit over loyalty. His wife breaks off from him because of this, and his daughter Su-an (played by Kim Su-an) grows increasingly disappointed in her selfish father, deciding to go to Busan to live with her mother. On Su-an's birthday, Seo Seok-woo takes the time to accompany his daughter onto the express train to Busan. Meanwhile, extremely suspicious riot events break out throughout the city. The government desperately tries to cover up the reality of the zombie outbreak, and even the oblivious train passengers are plunged into a hell of panic and despair due to the arrival of unwelcome guests. In an instant, an infected person rushes into the train car, quickly transforming into a zombie and launching a bloody massacre against the healthy passengers nearby. Before long, the zombies begin to multiply exponentially. Seo Seok-woo is forced to fight for survival alongside the remaining passengers in the cramped space. The long journey to Busan is fraught with danger, and in this time of crisis, each survivor's humanity is put to the test...
