The film fictionalizes the "mysterious" five days before Edgar Allan Poe’s death. A brutal murder case occurs in Baltimore where a mother and daughter are simultaneously killed. Local officer Emmet (Luke Evans) investigates and discovers that the criminal methods mirror those found in Edgar Allan Poe's (John Cusack) novels. Just as Poe is called to the police station for questioning, another murder occurs, with the same methods referencing his novels. After understanding the killer's techniques, Emmet invites Poe to act as a consultant to help solve the case. As the investigation deepens, Emmet realizes that Poe himself may become the next target of this cruel murderer. Just when everyone is working to protect Poe’s safety, the killer unexpectedly kidnaps his lover Emily (Alice Eve). Who is the real murderer, and can Poe unravel this deadly game using his own novels?
