Takumi Fujiwara (voiced by Mamoru Miyano) is an ordinary eighteen-year-old high school student, whose father, Bunta Fujiwara (voiced by Hiroaki Hirata), runs a tofu shop. Since the age of thirteen, Bunta has required Takumi to drive up the mountain early every morning to deliver tofu to the shop at the top. In reality, Bunta was once a racing driver, hoping to subtly train Takumi’s driving skills by having him transport the fragile tofu. Although Takumi doesn't know much about racing, he already possesses excellent control and balance skills. By chance, Takumi showcases his superb driving skills in front of others, stunning everyone and subsequently entering the racing scene. He becomes acquainted with the Takahashi brothers, Ryosuke (voiced by Daisuke Ono) and Keisuke (voiced by Yuichi Nakamura), and the three form a racing team called Project D.
