The film is adapted from the classic animated series by animation master Tatsuo Yoshida. Speed Racer (played by Emile Hirsch) is the son of Pops (played by John Goodman), a well-known automobile manufacturer. Under his guidance, his elder brother Rex becomes a top race car driver; however, tragically, Rex dies in an accident during a race. With the support of his girlfriend Trixie (played by Christina Ricci) and his family, Speed decides to participate in the International Grand Prix and uncover the truth behind his brother's death. During the competition, Speed meets the enigmatic racer Racer X (played by Matthew Fox) and the Asian driver Taejo (played by Rain), who is also battling against Royalton. With their help, Speed begins to face the challenges of a track that may lead to death.
