Cole (played by Lewis Tan) is a skilled yet down-and-out fighter who one day inexplicably comes under attack by the cryomancer Sub-Zero (played by Joe Taslim). With the help of Special Forces Major Jax (played by Mehcad Brooks), Cole narrowly escapes and sets out to find a woman named Sonya (played by Jessica McNamee). Cole then arrives at the temple of Earthrealm protector Raiden (played by Tadanobu Asano), where he meets warriors Liu Kang (played by Ludi Lin) and mercenary Kano (played by Josh Lawson), who all share one thing in common: they each bear a mysterious dragon mark.
