The story is based on real events that took place in a convent in Italy during the 17th century. Benedetta (played by Virginie Efira) was born into a wealthy and devout Christian family, and at a young age, her parents sent her to the convent for education, training her to become a nun. In that era, going to a convent was an extraordinary opportunity for a girl. Years passed, and Benedetta had grown into a young woman, becoming the capable assistant to the convent's abbess, Virginia (played by Charlotte Rampling). One day, a ragged girl stormed into the convent seeking help. Her name was Bartoloméa (played by Daphne Patakia). With Benedetta's help, this poor girl, who had suffered abuse from her father and brother, entered the convent and became a novice. However, Bartoloméa was as wild and untameable as a horse, and her presence soon proved challenging for Benedetta.
