An entomologist (played by Hideji Ōkada) conducts field research in the desert but accidentally misses the bus back and becomes stranded in a small village in the desert. He is taken in by a widow (played by Kyoko Kishida), but after being welcomed, he discovers that the road to the outside world has been blocked. He gradually observes various oddities in the village, such as all the villagers must shovel sand every night to prevent their homes from being buried, and all water is regulated with a rationing system. The widow who took him in begins to seduce him with her body, trying to reconstruct a family with him. He attempts to escape several times but fails each time and must pretend to comply, engaging in regular labor in the village and living a rationed lifestyle, while secretly planning his escape. One day, the widow falls seriously ill and is diagnosed by a doctor as being unexpectedly pregnant. The villagers hurriedly take her to the hospital, and the man finally sees a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to escape...
