The story takes place during the late Qing Dynasty, where the great detective Sherlock Holmes (played by Fan Aili) and his assistant Watson (played by Xu Zhongquan) travel to China for leisure and stay at the Xianlai Inn. Unexpectedly, the inn is heavily guarded by soldiers, creating an atmosphere of tension and fear. It turns out that a batch of priceless jewels belonging to the court has gone missing, and the general in charge of escorting the jewels, General Buck, has been found decapitated. Consequently, Holmes and Watson decide to stay and attempt to solve the case. Soon, various clues left at the scene lead to the horse trader Jin Mazhang (played by Wang Chi), but unbeknownst to them, Bai Furong (played by Xiulan Limei), the inn's female manager, has already informed Jin Mazhang. When the group arrives at Jin Mazhang's location, they find only an empty room and Buck's severed head.
