The retired singer Angela Arden (played by Charles Busch) has an abnormal family. Her elder son Lance (played by Stark Sands) is gay and often struggles with his fluctuating emotions. Her younger daughter Edith (played by Natasha Lyonne) harbors deep contempt for her mother and is close only to her father. Angela's marriage life feels like imprisonment, making her melancholic. She wants to take the microphone again, but her husband—film producer Sol Sussman (played by Philip Baker Hall)—does everything he can to stop her. He despises her and, upon discovering her affair with the down-and-out actor “pretty boy” Tony Parker (played by Jason Priestley), cuts off all her financial support, forbids her from returning to the music scene, and refuses to divorce. Sol's cold and harsh attitude towards their son Lance also drives Angela to the decision to poison him. Edith does not believe that their father died of a heart attack. She insists that Lance join her in finding evidence of their mother’s deliberate murder, but Lance deeply loves his mother and is caught in a dilemma. Meanwhile, their mother’s lover, Tony Parker, deliberately approaches the siblings, quickly winning their hearts and causing a fierce rivalry between them. What is Tony's true identity? As the investigation deepens, the final truth turns out to be unexpected. The conspiracy is linked to an old case—years ago, Angela killed her sister Barbara and assumed her identity, and the two children are actually her sister's kids. Moreover, the deceased Sol resurfaces, attempting to kill Angela... Based on the 1999 play by Charles Busch, who also stars, the film is directed by Mark Rucker, who won the Special Jury Prize at the 2003 Sundance Film Festival for "Die, Mommie, Die".
