The film is adapted from the original novel by Kōtarō Sawaki—former boxer Hironobu Hirooka, who lost a match due to an unfair decision, returns to the United States after 40 years, where he meets the heartbroken boxer Shōgo Kuroki, who also suffered a loss due to a wrong call. Shōgo begs Hironobu to teach him boxing, and they will "risk their lives" in their struggle for the world championship.
