Veteran John Rambo (Sylvester Stallone) returns home from Vietnam to a small town that feels foreign to him. The local sheriff (Brian Dennehy) immediately starts to find fault with Rambo, even taking him to the police station to insult him. Unable to bear the humiliation, Rambo fights back and escapes. The sheriff rallies a large number of police officers to pursue Rambo, who retreats into the wilderness, using the guerrilla tactics he learned in the Vietnam War to counterattack. He hijacks a weapons transport truck and returns to town to set a store on fire; neither the law nor the weapons can stop him. Rambo's commanding officer from the Vietnam War, Colonel Trautman (Richard Crenna), arrives and urges him to lay down his arms. Rambo, long frustrated, unleashes his confusion and discontent…
