The film is adapted from a bestselling novel in the Netherlands, telling the story of cancer patient Sophie van der Stap who bravely faces her illness and experiences nine different fascinating lives with nine wigs. Sophie (Sophie van der Stap) was born in Amsterdam in 1983. Due to her passion for travel, she decided to study international politics. In early 2005, she was diagnosed with a rare cancer—rhabdomyosarcoma—with tumors of various sizes filling her lungs. Besides chemotherapy, she also had to undergo radiation therapy. To document this period, Sophie began sharing her cancer-fighting journey on her blog.
