At the end of the 1990s, Bai Xuemei (Huang Lu), a recent college graduate entering the workforce, is eager to help her parents shoulder their burdens but struggles to find a suitable job. As she worries, a human trafficker disguised as a pharmaceutical procurement company employee extends a warm hand to her. She follows them to a remote village in northwestern China to procure traditional Chinese medicine, only to fall unconscious after drinking a cup of water. After waking up, Bai Xuemei finds her "pharmaceutical company colleagues" have vanished. When checking her ID and wallet, she discovers they are also missing. In an instant, she realizes she has been sold to the locals. After pleading for help, Bai Xuemei understands that the only way to regain her dignity and freedom is to escape.
