After receiving the news of her father’s (played by Tai Bao) passing, daughter A Mei (played by Wang Liwen) returns from Taipei to her hometown to assist her brother with the funeral arrangements. Under the strict guidance of the officiant, they mourn, while chatty women fold paper lotus flowers, and a tower of canned goods bursts under the sun... A Mei is often caught between the absurd rural funeral customs and the strange connections people have in the village, leading her to a mix of laughter and tears, as memories of her father flood back. The emotional distance between her and her father over the years begins to dissolve in the warmth of these memories. After the complicated, lengthy, and mostly humorous funeral is finally wrapped up, A Mei returns to her busy life in the city. A few months later, passing through Hong Kong airport, she instinctively reaches for a pack of “Yellow Longevity” cigarettes for her father, only to suddenly grasp that he is no longer there, and the tears she never truly shed finally come pouring out... This film is adapted from the first prize-winning work of the "Lin Rong San Literary Award," directed by essayist Liu Zijie herself.
