In Major League Baseball (MLB), Billy (played by Brad Pitt) faces a setback when his team, the Oakland Athletics, loses to the wealthy New York Yankees. To make matters worse, three key players are lured away with huge contracts, leaving the future of the season bleak. During a management meeting, everyone is at a loss, but he is determined to transform the team. By chance, he meets Peter (played by Jonah Hill), a Yale economics graduate, and their philosophies on team operations align perfectly.
