Charlie (played by Paul Hogan) is a stubborn and headstrong old man whose dissatisfaction with life has caused him to lose his enthusiasm, spending each day in sorrow. Seeing his father's poor mental state, his son Boots (played by Shane Jacobson) is very anxious. Despite the frequent arguments and the distant relationship between them, blood is thicker than water, and Boots decides to take action to change the situation. Boots takes Charlie in the car, deceiving him into thinking they are going fishing, but their true destination is Cape York, 3000 miles away. Upon discovering he has been tricked, Charlie is furious, but he has to endure it at his son's insistence. Along the way, a girl named Jess (played by Morgan Griffin) hitches a ride with them, and her optimism and cheerfulness gradually change the tense atmosphere between father and son, resolving the misunderstandings and grievances that had built up over the years.
