Lynn (Ellen Barkin) has had a very unsuccessful marriage. Although her ex-husband has remarried, their relationship remains extremely tense. Having no money, Lynn lost custody of her son Dylan (Michael Nardelli), and she lives alone with her other three children. As time goes by, the negative impacts of being a single parent gradually manifest in Lynn's three children; they either misbehave, fall into addiction, or exhibit excessive anger. Dylan is about to enter marriage with his fiancée, and he invites his mother to attend the wedding. However, this invitation feels like torture for Lynn because she knows she will face ridicule and sarcasm. Indeed, from childhood onward, family has not been a safe haven for Lynn to weather the storms.
