Russian film master Alexander Sokurov has been preparing his new work "The Louvre Under Occupation" since winning the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival in 2011 with "Faust." This time, Sokurov turns his lens to the Louvre in Paris, pulling the timeframe back to World War II, exploring the core connections between art and politics under Nazi occupation. The film has been nominated for the Golden Lion at the 72nd Venice Film Festival, and after four years of anticipation, the Russian film master will be presenting his new work in the water city. It is uncertain whether he will win another award, but being the world premiere of this film is enough to attract significant attention. Sokurov has always been passionate about making films on historical and power themes. In his representative "Power Quartet," three parts involve: "Moloch" about Hitler, "Russian Ark" which features the Winter Palace Museum in St. Petersburg, and "The Sun" about Emperor Hirohito of Japan. As an art enthusiast, Sokurov particularly loves the museums that hold cultural treasures, and his new work "The Louvre Under Occupation" directly focuses on the Louvre, one of the world's top four museums, which is sure to present a historical entanglement of art, politics, and culture.
