This film is adapted from the autobiographical novel by the late Irish genius writer and painter, Christy Brown. Christy (played by Daniel Day-Lewis) is born with cerebral palsy and can only move his left foot normally. He lacks the ability to care for himself, which brings a significant burden to his family. As a child, he is often mocked by other kids, and his father nearly gives up on him, while his mother (Brenda Fricker) continues to care for him devotedly, never abandoning him. Christy struggles psychologically but cannot express his feelings verbally, attempting to write and paint with his left foot. Gradually, through perseverance and intelligence, he begins to gain recognition. His mother secretly buys him a wheelchair, and he later receives free assistance from Dr. Eleanor. Under Eleanor's guidance, Christy's condition starts to improve. During this time, Christy has fallen in love with Eleanor. One day, Eleanor recommends Christy's paintings for an exhibition at a friend's gallery. Afterward, he confesses his feelings to Eleanor but is rejected...
