A pair of elderly brothers, K and W, living in the same valley, have not spoken a word to each other for forty years due to unspecified reasons, relying solely on a dog to deliver messages written on paper for communication. The valley is sparsely populated, but during a sheep competition held throughout the valley, K's ram wins by a slight margin. W is very dissatisfied, and inadvertently discovers that K's sheep have contracted a disease, leading him to report it, which puts all the sheep in the valley, including those of both K and W, at risk of being humanely destroyed.
