The film is adapted from the life of American composer Cole Porter. The story takes place in Paris, France, where American Porter (played by Kevin Kline) arrives with hopes for the future and grand dreams in this city full of artistic ambiance. Here, Porter meets a beautiful woman named Linda (played by Ashley Judd), whose presence rekindles Porter's desire for women, and their relationship quickly warms up, leading them to the altar of marriage.
