When Corinne (played by Vera Farmiga) was young, she was filled with curiosity about everything around her, encountered many growing pains, and engaged with religion. As a newly adult, she quickly fell in love, rushed into pregnancy, and naively entered marriage, tying the knot with a rock musician, becoming a housewife, and abandoning her writing dreams and religious beliefs. However, married life did not turn out to be as good as Corinne had hoped; she often felt neglected and lost while accompanying her husband and his music friends on tour with a young child in tow. During one of the tours, a car accident occurred, and after great struggles, the family of three narrowly escaped disaster, rekindling Corinne's inclination towards faith. Everything seemed happy at first, but faced with doctrinal constraints, a friend's brain cancer, and the budding of an affair, Corinne's faith was constantly wavering... The film is adapted from Carolyn Briggs' autobiographical novel "This Dark World."
