SomTum is one of the traditional dishes from northeastern Thailand and is also one of the most popular Thai dishes among foreign friends. It is made primarily from shredded papaya, mixed with chili, lime juice, fish sauce, peanuts, and dried shrimp, hence the Chinese translation "凉拌木瓜丝" (cold mixed shredded papaya), which is also one of my favorite Thai dishes. The film tells the story of a big but timid foreigner who transforms into a red "monster" after eating SomTum, resembling a combination of the Hulk and Popeye. The target audience of this film is clearly not local Thais, but rather Western tourists with blonde hair and blue eyes. The movie combines Muay Thai, freestyle fighting, and humor, resembling a classic Jackie Chan film. I wonder if any film companies from Hong Kong or Taiwan would be interested in this movie?
