In September, with the arrival of autumn, there seems to be the loneliness of theater director Caden (played by Philip Seymour Hoffman). Following an accidental injury, Caden becomes trapped in an endless cycle of treatments, continuously visiting various specialists. On the other hand, his wife Adele (played by Catherine Keener), who creates miniature oil paintings, becomes increasingly distant, and the cold, awkward atmosphere at home deepens Caden's self-doubt, which cannot be masked by the immense success of his play. Caden maintains ambiguous relationships with a woman who works in the theater and an actress; after his wife leaves him, he attempts to find a way to improve his mental state through these two women, yet he still fails. Ultimately, Caden decides to seek answers through his play, leading to a complex creative endeavor...
