"Impact," directed by Mike Rohl, known for "Supernatural," "Reaper," and "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles," is a sci-fi disaster miniseries set to air on ABC on June 21 and 28. The story primarily describes a series of catastrophic consequences following a meteor striking the Moon. Much like the plot of the movie "Armageddon," humanity sends an elite team to the Moon in search of a final way to save Earth. Does this mean "Impact" is merely an uninspired, dull "copycat"? The answer is no. This miniseries, with a budget of $14 million and a runtime of 3 hours, features many well-known actors such as Natasha Henstridge, David James Elliott, James Cromwell, and Steven Culp, and still has several original highlights. Just as people are excitedly enjoying a once-in-a-lifetime huge meteor shower, a brown dwarf hidden among the meteor swarm suddenly rushes toward the Moon. The enormous impact causes terrifying explosions, shattering parts of the Moon’s surface into debris. The fragments quickly fall into Earth’s atmosphere, igniting fire wherever they land. While the losses are not substantial, the extreme sense of panic rapidly spreads worldwide. Meanwhile, a series of anomalies begin to occur on Earth—initially just the disappearance of mobile signals, irregular static disturbances, and odd tidal phenomena, which are not particularly concerning, but things are clearly not that simple. The world's top scientists—Alex, Maddie, and Roland—begin to gather related clues, attempting to decode the mystery. However, they are shocked to discover that the Moon’s orbit may have been completely altered. Worse yet, the abnormalities on Earth have reached a point that cannot be ignored—a massive "magnetic surge" from the Moon is sufficient to interfere with Earth’s gravity. In certain areas of the Earth, people, objects, and even cars frequently experience brief moments of weightlessness for no apparent reason. These areas appear randomly and are independent of each other. After precise calculations, Alex and the others confirm: there are only 39 days left before Earth "collides head-on" with the Moon; the apocalypse for the world and for humanity will arrive on the same day!
