Danvers State Hospital is located not far from Boston, built in the 1860s, it once housed over two thousand patients. Now it is abandoned, waiting to be rebuilt for other uses. Before the reconstruction, the asbestos needs to be removed, and a company specializing in hazardous material removal has taken on this task. Five men, including the company owner Gordon, entered this eerie behemoth. Gordon has a wife and a newborn daughter at home, relying on him to make a living, so he took on the job and promised to finish work that would normally take two or three weeks within a week; Phil is a minor foreman who started using marijuana after his girlfriend left him for someone else; Hank is the guy who stole his girlfriend, a smug gambler who constantly mocks Phil; also accompanying them are law student Mike and Gordon's nephew Jeff, a naive young man. As soon as the five entered, Gordon heard strange sounds, seemingly from the hospital's past. Mike is very interested in the hospital's history and discovers some tapes in the basement that record information about a patient named Mary Hobbs who has multiple personalities, divided into nine parts. Mike starts listening to these tapes; meanwhile, Phil begins to doubt Gordon's mental state, Jeff struggles against his fear of the dark, and Hank finds some treasure in a wall, but after he goes out at night, he never returns. The pressure of work intensifies day by day, Hank's disappearance and a series of strange occurrences fray everyone's nerves more and more. Human psyche is so easily influenced and distorted. The terrifying history and painful torment of the past, along with the peculiar events of the present and the inner secrets of those around them, weigh heavily on everyone's hearts, while Danvers Hospital silently observes them, casting its shadow into each person's soul. Days pass, and no one knows what lies at the end of the long, dark corridor, what is hidden on the other side of the wall, who among them is lying, who will break down, and who is trustworthy? Fear seeps up from the deepest parts, filling every corner, and facing their fragile mental states and the mysterious environment, they don't know what it all means, putting their psychological endurance to a significant test. And the ending is always unexpected...
