Mira (Joan Crawford) is a moderately famous screenwriter who has just completed an excellent script. Originally, actor Lester (Jack Palance) planned to play the leading role in the script, but Mira is very dissatisfied with this casting choice. Due to her objections, Lester is likely to lose this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. One day, Mira encounters Lester on a train. This time, Lester completely changes the image he has in Mira's mind, showing a charming and romantic side that makes her question if this man is the same person she once knew. Soon, Mira and Lester fall in love and enter into marriage, but as time goes by, various clues start to make Mira suspect that this is all a trap.
