In a picturesque English countryside, naturalist Charles Darwin (played by Paul Bettany) lives a tranquil life with his wife and daughter. His ten-year-old daughter Annie is full of curiosity about the world, so Darwin teaches her a lot about nature and science, including his theory of evolution. However, in a time when everyone believes that God is the creator, Annie's mention of evolution poses a great danger, leading to her being punished by the governess. Even Darwin's beloved wife Emma (played by Jennifer Connelly) struggles to accept his views and research. To make matters worse, shortly thereafter, little Annie passes away from illness, dimming the only source of strength that supported him in completing his doctrine. The task of organizing the manuscript for "On the Origin of Species" becomes an arduous journey through thorny struggles... This film is adapted from the biography "Annie's Box" by Randal Keynes, Darwin's great-great-grandson.
