The Hundred Years' War between England and France, which began in the 14th century, saw France gradually retreating, with most of its territory occupied by the English. During this time, Jeanne (played by Milla Jovovich) was born in a poor, remote area of France. From a young age, Jeanne frequently experienced various visions. Once, she saw a vision that led her to find a sword, and when she returned home with the sword, she discovered her home had been ravaged by the English army. Jeanne knew that it was destined for her to defend France. She asked the Dauphin Charles (played by John Malkovich) to lead an army against the English. Desperate, Charles agreed to Jeanne's request.
