In the spring of 1949, following the victory of the Three Major Campaigns, the Fourth Field Army, under the command of General Zhu and Chairman Mao (played by Gu Yue), obeyed the order to "march nationwide." Led by Commander Lin Biao (played by Ma Shaoxin), the troops marched southward, aiming directly at Hubei and Hunan. Our army launched a counteroffensive in three routes: one headed for Changsha by the Twelfth Corps, another by the Fourth Corps, Fifteenth Corps, and Guangxi columns initiated the Xiang-Gan Campaign. The third route, the Thirteenth Corps, attacked the enemy forces in western Hubei. As the majority of the Fourth Field Army's soldiers came from the north, they faced severe difficulties due to the summer heat and unfamiliar environment, leading to rampant diseases. The Guangxi faction general Bai Chongxi (played by Tian Jingshan) set up ambushes, causing initial losses to our troops.
