Niu Aiguo (played by Mao Hai) is a shoemaker in a county town, and his sister is Niu Aixiang (played by Liu Bei). Niu Aiguo wants a divorce, while Niu Aixiang wants to get married. Niu Aixiang was hurt in her youth due to a romantic relationship and didn't marry until she was nearly 40, when she found a communicative partner in chef Song Jiefang (played by Fan Wei), but after marriage, they discovered they also had nothing to say to each other. Niu Aiguo, on the other hand, married Pang Lina (played by Li Qian) because she could "communicate," but after 10 years of marriage, they also ran out of things to say. Niu Aiguo then discovers his wife is having an affair with Jiang Boss from the wedding dress shop (played by Yu En Tai). He goes through a series of stalking, catching her in the act, and dragging things out without getting a divorce, experiencing intense emotions from anger to calmness to relief. When Niu Aiguo is on the brink of collapse, those around him don't care at all, including his closest comrades and sister, who cannot empathize with his despair and shame, merely advising him to endure it. In the end, Niu Aiguo hears from an old classmate, Zhang Chuhong (played by Sun Qian), "Living life is about living for the future, not the past." It seems he suddenly sees a way out of life.
