11-year-old elementary school sixth grader Momoko Miura (voiced by Karen Miyama) moves from Tokyo to Shiojima in the Seto Inland Sea with her mother Yukiko (voiced by Yuka) after her father passes away unexpectedly. Her busy mother has little time for Momoko, leaving her often feeling lonely and helpless in the new environment. Momoko has kept a letter from her father that begins with "To Momoko," but she cannot understand the message he was trying to convey. Upon arriving in Shiojima, Momoko discovers an old box in the attic containing a picture book depicting monsters, which leads her to notice a series of incredible events around her. "There must be something on Shiojima," she thinks, and during a strange and lively summer in Shiojima, she encounters something unexpected... This film is produced by the renowned Japanese animation company Production I.G and is a heartwarming healing work directed by Keiichi Okamura, who returns after many years.
