In the chaotic late Eastern Han period, Liu Bei's two wives and a未过门小妾 Qilan (played by Sun Li) are trapped in Cao Cao's camp. Guan Yu (played by Donnie Yen), to uphold loyalty and righteousness, surrenders to Cao Cao (played by Jiang Wen), but can never forgive Cao Cao's wolfish ambition to control the Han dynasty, hoping to return to Liu Bei's side. Cao Cao admires Guan Yu's military talent and benevolent heart, attempting to persuade him with the interests of the common people. With Yuan Shao launching an attack against Cao, Guan Yu kills Yan Liang in battle, earning the title of Han Shouting Marquis and forming a brotherhood with Zhang Liao (played by Shao Bing). After Cao Cao sends Liu Bei's two wives back, he adds an aphrodisiac to Guan Yu's wine, hoping to make him commit an immoral relationship with Qilan - Guan Yu once secretly harbored feelings for his hometown girl Qilan and even risked killing officials for her, but this relationship was ultimately blocked by the rules of uncle and niece. After regaining consciousness, Guan Yu takes Qilan to join Liu Bei, breaking through numerous checkpoints along the way, leaving behind the legendary tale of "passing Five Passes and slaying Six Generals"…
