Liu Jia Ling and Mao Shun Jun both work in the Major Crimes Unit. Liu is a newly promoted Senior Inspector, impulsive in her work, while Mao has lost faith in the police force. Their informant, Luo Mei Wei, who is entangled with corrupt informants, inadvertently discovers a black market gun deal, but Luo is afraid of being drawn into the vortex and is unwilling to take risks. Liu persists in pressuring her. Luo seeks an agreement with her superior, but he instructs Luo to act as bait to draw out the gang leaders, prompting Luo to angrily accuse them of treating lives as insignificant. Liu feels extremely upset; knowing that Luo's life is in danger, Mao resolves to protect her. However, in the end, Luo is killed, and before her death, she passes the clues to Mao. Under the investigation led by Mao, Liu, and their superior, they confront the gang leaders, and in the chaos, their superior is taken hostage, offering Liu and Mao their first taste of being on the edge of death. Ultimately, Mao and Liu work together to rescue their superior and recover the lost gun, leading to positive changes in both their lives and careers.
