Seven-year-old Vanis (played by Georges Corraface) lives with his family in Istanbul, where his grandfather owns a spice shop, and it is here that Vanis spends his childhood. His grandfather teaches Vanis various knowledge about life, the universe, and geography by drawing parallels with the characteristics of spices. Young Vanis also falls in love with a Turkish girl named Semsi, who plays with him. However, soon after, political turmoil disrupts their happy family life, and Vanis and his parents are expelled to Athens due to their Greek nationality, while his grandfather, a Turkish citizen, is allowed to stay. Time flies, and now a man in his forties, Vanis has become a respected professor of astronomy, but he feels lost in life, as if always missing that little bit of spice. After 35 years of leaving his hometown, he still longs to return to the home of his childhood and hopes to see that wonderful girl again... This film is based on the true experiences of writer and director Tassos Boulmetis.
