U.S. Marine Corps Colonel Mike (played by Kevin Bacon) is given a mission: to escort the remains of Private First Class Chance back home for burial. Although Mike did not know Chance and the latter was not his subordinate, having participated in the Gulf War, Mike felt it was his duty to help this fellow Coloradan find peace. In a solemn atmosphere, their bodies are carefully cleaned, numbered, and gently placed in the hearse... After receiving training in the relevant rituals, Mike embarks on the escort mission, during which he experiences the deep respect from various American citizens for soldiers who died far from home. This journey is not only an escort but also a silent conversation between Mike and the deceased...
