On her way to marry in London, Kelly (Margaret Lockwood) is trapped in a small inn at the foot of the mountain due to an avalanche, where she meets photographer Mr. Memory (Michael Redgrave). They have a quarrel over a trivial matter, but the next day, as they continue their journeys, they end up on the same train. On the train, Kelly partners with an elderly woman, Mrs. Froy (Dame May Whitty), and they take care of each other. However, after Kelly hits her head and falls into a deep sleep, she wakes up to find the elderly woman has disappeared. As she searches for Mrs. Froy without success, Kelly has no choice but to call the police. Unexpectedly, everyone in the same carriage claims they have not seen any elderly woman, leaving Kelly confused. She encounters Mr. Memory again, who believes her and feels something is amiss. The two gradually reconcile and begin their investigation together.
