This biographical film portrays the life of a famous painter from the Victorian era, Louis Wain, between 1837 and 1901. He was more than capable as an illustrator but also spent a great deal of energy researching how to harness electricity for human use. He had a wide range of interests, was diligent in his studies, but was constantly pulled back to reality by his mother and five sisters, always having to hustle for a living and pay off the family's debts. Eventually, he fell in love with and married Emily, the governess of his sister's children, facing opposition from his sisters and society due to their different social standings. Soon after, Emily passed away from illness, and the stray cat they had adopted, Peter, became Louis Wain's emotional support and source of inspiration. His paintings of cats became a nationwide sensation, and his genius was even recognized across the ocean. However, due to his poor financial management, he ended up living in a hospital in his later years, and Emily, who had shown him the beauty of the world, became his final spiritual refuge.
