From a young age, Kōichirō Shimada (played by Takao Osawa) admired Dr. Albert Schweitzer, known as the "Saint of Africa." As an adult, he fulfilled his dream of becoming a healthcare worker, and subsequently followed in the footsteps of his mentor to provide medical services in Africa. After spending six months in Kenya, he and his peers went to a Red Cross hospital in a war-torn area to provide medical support. There, Kōichirō witnessed the most horrifying scenes of human suffering, with young soldiers killing and then being driven into minefields. The heart-wrenching cries of children pained him deeply, and their indifferent yet hostile gazes filled him with worry. Worse, once these children healed, they were forced to return to the battlefield until they fell in battle. Feeling a heavy sense of responsibility, Kōichirō applied for an extension to stay and, along with nurse Utako (played by Satomi Ishihara), worked tirelessly on the front lines of saving lives. He is a lonely yet brave lion, standing tall against the wind and refusing to bow down...This film is based on the story of Japanese doctor Kōichirō Shibata.
