A young woman played by Louise Brooks constantly faces misfortune... Her father is a fickle character, and naturally, his apprentice pharmacist is also a flirt. Under the director's arrangement, Thymian becomes a sprite, sometimes fallen, sometimes noble. She is sent to a reform school by her family for becoming pregnant out of wedlock. A debauched son of a family friend saves her but is unable to support her life, thus her fate in a low-end bar becomes inevitable. When her father dies, she wins back her father's inheritance, yet she gives it to her cruel stepmother, who has two children of her own, and she herself becomes a model with a moral halo.
