This is a film based on a true case in South Korea, specifically the Daegu Frog Boy missing persons case. In 1991, five elementary school students went missing while catching frogs, and their bodies were discovered in September 2002. On March 26, 1991, the city had a day off due to local council elections, which were held for the first time in 30 years. The last eyewitness reported seeing the children near Wolongsan Mountain, but they were nowhere to be found. In 2002, the remains of the missing boys were found on Wolongsan Mountain, and the cause of death was determined to be homicide, but as of now, the perpetrator has not been caught. The statute of limitations for murder cases in South Korea is 15 years, which expired on March 25, 2006, so even if the perpetrator is caught, they cannot be punished. At the time of the film's release, it was still unknown whether the children had been killed or were just missing. Therefore, many aspects were imagined based on speculations. In 2011, a new film titled "The Children" was released, offering a different perspective on the case, with a more powerful storyline, and is worth recommending.
