Yang Lizhou, who won the Best Documentary at the Golden Horse Awards with "Miracles of Summer," turns the lens to a street called "Lingtan Street," which cannot be found on the map, in "Love and Separation Pain." This alley hides unique local shops that are experiencing a revival, each with its own private concerns: women burdened by family struggles; female partners of independent bookstore owners; the vegetable stall owner with a strict husband; a piano teacher working at a laundromat; a young mother forced to separate from her son; and a pregnant woman from a musical instrument shop deciding to give birth at home. Time flows, life evolves, and touching stories unfold on this street, encompassing presidential elections and New Year's celebrations.
Yang Lizhou gently covers the past scars of everyone with a tender gaze, deeply following and interviewing individuals, breaking through emotional defenses to present various resilient female selves. The tear stains on the screen glimmer with a warm light of humanity, leading to a poignant realization that love and pain are two sides of the same coin, never truly apart.
