Jim (Cary Grant) is an advertising executive who has been married for many years to his wife Muriel (Myrna Loy), and they are raising two adorable daughters, Joan (Sharyn Moffett) and Betsy (Connie Marshall). To outsiders, Jim's marriage seems perfect, with a stable job and a good income, but the fact that their house is rented weighs heavily on the family. Most of the arguments in Jim's home revolve around the house, leading him to fantasize that if they could own a home, maybe their endless quarrels would cease. Soon, a suburban mansion catches Jim's attention, and he decides to move the family there. He thought this would solve everything, but things quickly spiral out of Jim's control.
