Handsome and academically outstanding Zach (Freddie Prinze Jr.) is the envy of everyone at school, but even he has unspoken troubles and confusion. His girlfriend Taylor (Jodi Lyn O'Keefe) surprisingly shows interest in Brock (Matthew Lillard), who is nowhere near as good as him, and Zach can't accept it. To regain his pride, Zach declares that he can turn any girl into a prom queen. However, when the girl he has to transform, Laney (Rachael Leigh Cook), appears before him, Zach is taken aback. Laney is a well-known misfit, not only dressing awkwardly but also filled with a bunch of bizarre ideas. Transforming such a girl into a crowd favorite in a short time presents a huge challenge for Zach.
