In a vibrant 19th-century Mexican town, the Gypsy girl Yesenia (played by Jacqueline Andere) and her companions dance and sing joyfully. Proud and intelligent, she is like a thorny rose. Frequently facing discrimination from white people, Yesenia occasionally steals money to punish those in power, unaware of her own complicated heritage. One day, while fortune-telling at a tavern, she meets the confident white officer Osvaldo (played by Jorge Lavat). As their relationship develops, the two fall in love.
