In 1909, a Danish Arctic expedition led by Captain Einar Mikkelsen (played by Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) attempted to dispute America's claim on the northeastern part of Greenland. The dispute arose because, at that time, it was assumed that Greenland consisted of two islands. Mikkelsen left the crew on the ship and embarked on a journey across the ice with the inexperienced crew member, Eivor Evensen (played by Joe Cole). They successfully found evidence that Greenland was one island, but the return to the ship took longer than expected, and they faced challenges beyond their imagination.
