Two countries, two towns, one river. The two ends of the river represent two worlds. One is rich and prosperous, while the other is hopelessly poor. Human traffickers use this town on the Polish border, just a river away from Germany, as a transit station, and the story unfolds here. This film features a large number of characters, each with distinct and vivid personalities. Its complex yet orderly narrative structure, coupled with a documentary-style close-up shooting and smooth editing, captures about two days of plot, leaving an unforgettable impression of each character’s harrowing experiences. This film was nominated for the Golden Bear at the 2003 Berlin Film Festival and won Best Film at the 2004 Bavaria International Film Festival.
