After the son (Liu Ye) fails the college entrance examination and has to return home to the mountain, his father (Teng Rujun), who has been a village postman for most of his life, decides to retire early and arrange for his son to take over his job. On the son's first day of work, despite the father's numerous reminders and concerns, he remains uneasy and chooses to bring along his loyal old dog, who has been by his side for many years, to accompany his son on the mail delivery journey. Initially, the father and son walk in silence due to their long-standing emotional distance, but gradually, through interactions with different villagers, particularly a beautiful girl (Chen Hao), they begin to open up to each other and deepen their understanding of one another. Amidst the picturesque scenery, the son gradually realizes the hardships and significance of his father's work, while the father starts to reflect on the shortcomings he has had towards his family over the past twenty years.
