After the son (Liu Ye) fails the college entrance examination and has to return home to the mountain, his father (Teng Rujun), who has been a village postman for most of his life, decides to retire early and arrange for his son to take over his job. On the son's first day of work, despite the father's numerous reminders and concerns, he remains uneasy and chooses to bring along his loyal old dog, who has been by his side for many years, to accompany his son on the mail delivery journey.
