In 1943, the situation in the Anti-Japanese War underwent a significant change. The once-menacing Japanese imperialism, caught in a difficult position on the battlefields of World War II, began to mobilize large numbers of troops from the Chinese mainland to the Pacific. The provincial capital, which had been tightly controlled by the Japanese invaders, was handed over to the command of the puppet army below. Our party learned of this change and secretly sent a certain guerrilla team’s political commissar, Yang Xiaodong (played by Wang Xingang), to infiltrate the provincial capital. He disguised himself as an unemployed person and took refuge in the home of underground party member Han Yan. On one hand, he intensified efforts to unite all patriotic individuals to form anti-Japanese armed forces, while on the other hand, he planned a breakthrough from the troubled puppet security army commander Guan Jingtao. However, this action was fraught with crises, as the Japanese invaders launched a frantic hunt and counterattack, and the emergence of internal traitors became a time bomb threatening the fruits of the revolution. In the darkness before dawn, the awakened children strive to reach the sunlight... The film is adapted from the novel of the same name by Li Yingru.
