Forrest (played by Tom Hanks) was born shortly after World War II in a secluded small town in Alabama, USA. He is intellectually challenged with an IQ of only 75; however, his mother is a strong-willed woman who often encourages Forrest with the saying "stupid is as stupid does," urging him to be self-reliant. Forrest attends school like an ordinary child and meets his lifelong friend and beloved Jenny (played by Robin Wright Penn).
